Messianic congregation · Harahan, LA
Adat Yeshua Synagogue is a Messianic synagogue in New Orleans that celebrates Yeshua as Messiah with Judaism. Erev Shabbat services are held Friday evenings at 7, and a study class meets Saturdays at 1. Those who cannot attend in person can join by phone or computer.
Worship is in English and Hebrew, with transliteration so everyone can follow. Prayers come from the Siddur, which serves as a guide. The music draws on traditional and contemporary Jewish and Messianic songs, along with songs from the liturgy. On Saturdays the class studies books of the Bible and Jewish and Messianic writings derived from them.
The congregation reads Paul as a Jew rooted in his training as a Pharisee, whose view of the Torah was always positive. It teaches that Torah observance is not a means of salvation. Jewishness is not erased in Messiah, though. Jewish Torah observance is understood as a distinct calling. In the congregation's words, the Mosaic law "applies to Messianic Jews and Gentile Christians in different ways." The community values learning together and asks about the meaning of Scripture and of daily life.
