Adon Olam Messianic Congregation is a Messianic Jewish synagogue in Greenville, South Carolina. Jewish and non-Jewish people gather to worship the G-d of Israel and proclaim Yeshua as the Jewish Messiah. Shabbat services are held Fridays at 7:30 p.m., and a Scripture study meets Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.
The congregation describes Messianic Judaism as a branch of Judaism based on the Scriptures. It understands a Jewish lifestyle to include observing Shabbat and the mo'adim, the appointed times of the L-rd, with the added understanding of the New Covenant Scriptures. Both the Tanakh and the B'rit Khadashah are held to be the inspired Word of G-d. Adon Olam affirms the deity of Yeshua and teaches that salvation is not earned by human merit. It comes by grace through faith in his atoning death and resurrection.
The community began in June 1995 as Upstate Messianic Fellowship, meeting once a month. In 2002 it joined the International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues and took its present name. Adon Olam is Hebrew for "L-rd of the World," taken from a liturgical prayer. In 2003 the congregation bought a building on 18 acres in Piedmont and held its first Sabbath service there in May 2004. Rabbi Todd Lesser became full-time congregational leader in 2013. The IAMCS ordained him a Messianic Rabbi in 2015.
