Beit Shalom Messianic Synagogue

Messianic Jewish congregation · Thomasville, GA

About

Beit Shalom Messianic Synagogue gathers in Thomasville, Georgia, every Shabbat morning at 11:00. The name means "house of peace." It began in 1998 as a home fellowship hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Robert Ackerman. Jewish and Gentile believers met there for Shabbat evening dinners and services. The group later moved into a storefront synagogue, and in April 2005 it relocated to its current building.

Each Shabbat service includes a Torah service with readings from the Torah portion, Haftarah and Messianic Writings. Messianic praise and worship, prayer, a member's d'rash, blessing of the children and a D'var Torah follow. On the first Sabbath of each month the Torah service is fully liturgical. Oneg Shabbat, a congregational pot-luck meal, follows every service. Children's classes run during services, from nursery through a youth group. A Tuesday night Bible study and prayer time is open to all, and the community observes all biblical and traditional Jewish holidays.

The congregation holds that Yeshua is HaMashiach, the Son who died as an atonement for all and rose bodily. It teaches that righteousness with G-d comes "solely on grace through faith," and that faithfulness to Torah is expected alongside it. Gentile believers are received as grafted-in members, equal with Jewish congregants and accountable to the same Torah. The community also believes that Israel's return to the land fulfills prophecy and that all Israel will one day accept Yeshua. Rabbi Robert Ackerman serves as senior rabbi, with Rebbetzin Mary Louise Ackerman.
