Beit Shofarot Messianic Synagogue

Messianic Jewish congregation · Concord, NC

About

Beit Shofarot Messianic Synagogue gathers in Concord, North Carolina, every Shabbat at 10:30 in the morning. The name means "House of Shofars," and services open with the sound of the shofar. Liturgy is in Hebrew and Aramaic with English translation, and Spanish is spoken. Founded in 2009 as a twice-monthly Jewish Roots group in Salisbury, it became a full-time Shabbat congregation in April 2010. The congregation now owns its own building.

Beit Shofarot describes itself as a Messianic Jewish synagogue and states plainly that it is not Two House or Hebrew Roots. Salvation, it holds, comes through repentance and acknowledgment of Yeshua as the Son of G-d. Following the Torah is understood as the way of living out that faith rather than its source. The community speaks of G-d as a Triunity, stressing His single, unified essence. Jewish and non-Jewish believers worship together, and ritual conversion is not practiced. Its mission reaches "first to the Jew and then the non-Jew," and it also teaches churches about the Jewish roots of the faith.

Rabbi Yossi Wentz has served as senior rabbi since 2009, with Rabbi Tzali Martin as associate rabbi. After the morning Shacharit service comes an oneg, a shared meal kept kosher by biblical standards. A nursery, children's and teen classes, Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation, Pictograph Hebrew, Interactive Midrash and Israeli dance are offered.
