Beth Israel Messianic Synagogue

Messianic Jewish congregation · Jacksonville, FL

About

Beth Israel Messianic Synagogue is a Messianic Jewish congregation on the Southside of Jacksonville, Florida. It was founded in the early 1980s as Beth Jacob Messianic Congregation, first meeting in homes and rented spaces. The present name came in the mid-2000s. Rabbi David Levine leads the congregation with Rebbetzin Emerita Sandy Levine. Together they served in the Former Soviet Union and Europe, planting congregations. Beth Israel belongs to the MJAA and the IAMCS.

Yom Shabbat gathers every Saturday at 10:30 a.m., in person and by livestream. The two-hour service blends traditional liturgy, contemporary worship, a Torah procession and teaching. Prayers are in Hebrew and English, with translations on screen. Erev Shabbat meets Friday evenings at 7:30 by livestream only. Oneg, a shared lunch, follows the Saturday service. Shabbat School serves toddlers through pre-teens, and a nursery cares for infants.

The congregation holds that faith in Yeshua "does not cancel Jewish identity but fulfills it." It teaches that Jewish believers remain part of Israel's covenant and that Gentile believers are grafted in. Salvation, it affirms, is by grace through faith and not earned. Each week the community reads the Torah, Haftarah and B'rit Chadashah portions alongside the Jewish people worldwide. Beth Israel keeps the appointed times, from Passover and Shavuot to Sukkot, Hanukkah and Purim. It supports the modern State of Israel and takes part in tree-planting there.
