Messianic Jewish congregation · Humble, TX
City on the Hill Messianic Kehilah is a Messianic Jewish synagogue in Humble, Texas. The community gathers every Shabbat morning, with the main service and a children's service running from 10:30 to 12:30. Hebrew classes begin at 9:00, and congregational prayer starts at 9:30. Coffee and conversation fill the half hour before the service. Afterward comes an oneg, a light shared lunch, with a request that no pork or shellfish be brought.
About 30 percent of the community is Jewish. Its stated vision is a family where people who grew up Jewish feel at home alongside those who did not. The liturgy draws heavily on the traditional service, and the service runs longer than an hour. Torah scrolls rest in an ark, prayer books are used, and some men wear a kippah. Tallit and kippah are available for visitors.
The congregation describes Messianic Judaism as a form of Judaism with "a central focus on Yeshua (Jesus) as the Messiah of the world." It says plainly that it is not a church. Jews and Gentiles learn together, and the biblical festivals of Leviticus 23 are kept through the year. The message is given in English with Spanish translation, and slides show the words in Hebrew, English and Spanish. Children from six weeks through fifth grade have their own classes.
