Keren Ohr Messianic Synagogue gathers in Bloomingdale, Georgia, near Savannah, every Saturday at 11 am for Shabbat services. Keren Ohr means "a ray of light." The community sees its calling as shining the light of Yeshua to the Jewish people, greater Savannah and the world. Its vision rests on three words: love, grow and shine.
Worship blends contemporary and Messianic Jewish music with traditional prayers sung or spoken in Hebrew and English. Each service builds toward a message from the Bible and the weekly Torah portion. After the oneg, a discussion of the Torah portion begins at 2 pm. Jewish and non-Jewish believers in Yeshua worship together every Shabbat. A nursery serves children up to age 3. Kids ages 4 through 11 join part of the service, then learn scripture memory, basic Hebrew and Bible teaching in Shabbat school. Teens meet every other week after the service.
The congregation holds that Yeshua is God and the promised Messiah of Israel. It teaches that Jewish people who trust in Yeshua remain Jewish. Gentile believers are "grafted into" the Jewish olive tree as spiritual sons and daughters of Abraham, and they remain Gentiles. The community celebrates the Jewish Holy Days and believes salvation has always been by faith. It affirms the physical and spiritual restoration of Israel. Rabbi Larry Greenhaus became senior rabbi in 2019 and serves alongside Rebbetzin Eileen. Keren Ohr is a member synagogue of the IAMCS.
