Messianic Jewish congregation · North Smithfield, RI
Mishkahn David, whose name means Tabernacle of David, is a Messianic Jewish congregation in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. Jews and Gentiles worship together every Shabbat at 11:00 in the morning. Services bring prayer, music, dancing and a celebration of the Torah before a message is delivered. Nearly every message centers on the revelation of Messiah in the Torah.
The congregation affirms that Yeshua is divine, the eternal Messiah, and that salvation comes by grace through faith, not by keeping the mitzvot. Gentiles who trust in Yeshua are understood to be spiritually grafted into Israel. They may follow the Torah "in liberty," written on their hearts through the New Covenant. Mishkahn David teaches that there is no distinction between Jew and Gentile in Messiah, who together are "One New Man." It holds that the founding of Israel in 1948 fulfilled prophecy and states unconditional support for Israel. The community stands in unity with the Christian Church and is not affiliated with the Hebrew Roots movement.
Rabbi Brian and Rebbetzin Sue Samuel were ordained to lead the congregation in August 2013. Rabbi Peter and Lisa Oliveira founded it on Shavuot 2005 before moving to Haiti. Rosh Chodesh is celebrated at each new month, in homes and other locations. The biblical festivals are kept on their dates, from a Passover Seder through counting the omer to Shavuot. Autumn brings Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot, when the congregation camps out. Chanukah and Purim follow in winter. Mishkahn David is a member of the International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues.
