Rehoboth Messianic Congregation is a Messianic Jewish congregation in Vancouver, Washington. David and Ellie Sumner established it in May 1997. Its name comes from Genesis 26:22, where Rechovot means "wide open spaces." Jewish and non-Jewish believers in Yeshua worship together here, and the expression of that faith is distinctly Jewish.
Erev Shabbat begins Friday at 7 pm with praise and worship for the whole family. Saturday at 10:30 am brings a more traditional service. It includes shofar, liturgy, Torah reading, Davidic dance and teaching from the Word. On Wednesdays at 7 pm, a home-group study works through the Torah, haftorah and Brit Hadashah portions. Services are also streamed online.
The congregation holds that Yeshua is Israel's promised Messiah and the redeemer of the whole human race. Salvation, it teaches, is a gift of grace through faith in his atonement. Israel was and still is chosen of God to be a blessing to the people of the earth. All the biblical festivals are kept as reminders of God's plan of salvation and of Messiah's return. Shabbat afternoons hold Hebrew classes, a bar and bat mitzvah class, dance classes and intercessory prayer. Children have Shabbat school activities and a nursery on Shabbat mornings. An oneg lunch follows the service on the first Shabbat of each month.
