Messianic Jewish congregation · Boca Raton, FL
Shalom Boca Messianic Synagogue gathers in Boca Raton, Florida, for Shabbat services on Saturday mornings at 10:30. The congregation calls itself "a congregation of Jewish followers of Yeshua the Messiah and believing Gentiles who worship together." It understands its calling as bringing God's life, peace and love to the Jewish community in Boca Raton and its surroundings.
Services blend traditional Jewish liturgy with contemporary music. A Torah service follows, with a Torah procession, a Kids' Torah Talk and readings in Hebrew and English. The Haftarah and Brit Chadasha readings connect to the weekly Torah portion. The rabbi then brings a message of about 35 minutes. Men are encouraged to wear a kippah, and a tallit is available to Jewish men who visit. Children ages 4 to 11 attend Shabbat school during the message and rejoin for the final Aaronic blessing.
The rabbi was raised in New York City and attended an Orthodox shul growing up. In 1984, after two years of studying the Bible, he became convinced that Yeshua was the promised Messiah of Israel and the Nations. He and his wife, Gloria, moved to Florida 32 years ago to plant the congregation. Through the year the community holds Shabbat dinners and gathers for the High Holidays, Passover, Hannukah, Sukkot and Simchat Torah.
