Shoresh David Wesley Chapel is one of the Shoresh David Messianic Synagogues, a network of congregations in the Tampa Bay area. The Wesley Chapel congregation gathers for its Shabbat service on Saturdays at 10 AM, and services are streamed live. Sister congregations meet in Tampa and St. Petersburg, and a Spanish-language congregation, ConecTzion, meets on Saturday afternoons.
Families here come from many backgrounds, some born Jewish and some not, some born in the United States and some abroad. The community takes Psalm 133:1 as its aim, that brethren "dwell together in unity." Its mission is to build "a Messianic Jewish community and culture, for today and the next generation." The congregation holds that Yeshua is the promised Messiah of Israel, foretold in the Tanach and revealed in the B'rit Chadasha. It affirms that Yeshua is fully God and fully man. Salvation, it teaches, comes wholly by grace through faith. The good news, it believes, is for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Ed and Amanita Marvin lead the Wesley Chapel congregation, with Ed Marvin serving as its rabbi. Rabbi Steve Weiler is senior rabbi of the network. Shoresh David traces its beginnings to 1991. That year Stu and Dee Fabricant moved to Tampa and gathered two couples around a dining room table to study Scripture.
