Congregation B'rith Hadoshah

Messianic Jewish congregation · Amherst, NY

About

Congregation Brith Hadoshah gathers in Buffalo, New York, every Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for its Shabbat service. The congregation describes itself as "loyal to Jewish heritage, true to New Covenant faith." Rabbi Frank Lowinger leads the community and brings a Scripture-based message each week.

Services aim to blend "the zeal of the Orthodox and the relatability of the Reform." Traditional Jewish liturgy sits beside an upbeat song service of contemporary songs drawn from the sacred writings. Some worshippers join in choreographed Israeli dance. Lifting hands to Adonai is part of the worship, an expression of joy and kavanah. All Hebrew is accompanied by an English translation. A service usually runs about 75 minutes. On the first Shabbat of each month, the congregation holds a full Torah service and reads from its scroll. A Kiddush follows in the social hall.

Learning carries on around the service. Shabbat School meets Saturdays from 9:15 to 10 a.m., before worship begins. Torah Talk follows the Shabbat service each week. On Mondays, the Kerev Class meets from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Shabbat sermons are also streamed live.
