Adat Chaim
Lake Katrine, NY
Adat Chaim Messianic Synagogue gathers on Shabbat at 11:00am, both in person and by livestream on YouTube and Facebook. Worshippers follow along with the congregation's own siddur. Its motto, "Blessing and Life in Messiah Yeshua," echoes the call of Deuteronomy 30:19 to choose life. Its members are Jews and non-Jews who seek "to live in covenant community with one another through the power of the Ruach HaKodesh." Adat Chaim holds that Yeshua is fully G-d and fully man. Salvation, it teaches, comes by the grace of G-d alone through faith in Yeshua's death on behalf of our sins. The congregation affirms that the Jewish people have an irrevocable priestly gift and calling, one that includes Jewish followers of Yeshua. It understands the return of the Jewish people to their ancient homeland as part of the fulfillment of prophecy. It looks to a time when Israel and the nations will be one under the rule of the Messiah. Scripture as originally written is held to be the inerrant word of G-d. Disciples are immersed in the tevilah, or water baptism, in keeping with Romans 6. Rav Peter Lundgren and Rebbetzin Debra Lundgren serve as the congregational leaders.

Beth Am Messiah
New City, NY
Beth Am Messiah describes itself as a Messianic congregation of Jewish and Gentile people. Its Hebrew name translates as the House of Messiah's People. The community gathers every Shabbat at 11 a.m. for a worship service. Afterward, most go downstairs for Oneg Shabbat, the Joy of the Sabbath, with bagels, cream cheese, coffee and cake. Some stay in the sanctuary to pray. The congregation holds that Yeshua is the Son of God, Israel's promised Messiah and the Redeemer of the entire human race. It teaches that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Yeshua alone. Its members affirm one God existing eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Torah, the Prophets, the Writings and the Brit Hadasha are received together as the inspired Word of God. Beth Am Messiah understands Messianic Judaism as a movement of Jewish people who believe Yeshua is the Messiah of Israel. Messianic Jews, they teach, "have never stopped being Jewish." Yeshua kept the entire Torah and came to fulfill it, not set it aside. Drawing on Matthew 10:6, the congregation describes its mission as reaching the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Study of Scripture is central to congregational life, and the community offers opportunities for every age to grow together in Messiah Yeshua.

Congregation B'rith Hadoshah
Amherst, NY
Congregation Brith Hadoshah gathers in Buffalo, New York, every Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for its Shabbat service. The congregation describes itself as "loyal to Jewish heritage, true to New Covenant faith." Rabbi Frank Lowinger leads the community and brings a Scripture-based message each week. Services aim to blend "the zeal of the Orthodox and the relatability of the Reform." Traditional Jewish liturgy sits beside an upbeat song service of contemporary songs drawn from the sacred writings. Some worshippers join in choreographed Israeli dance. Lifting hands to Adonai is part of the worship, an expression of joy and kavanah. All Hebrew is accompanied by an English translation. A service usually runs about 75 minutes. On the first Shabbat of each month, the congregation holds a full Torah service and reads from its scroll. A Kiddush follows in the social hall. Learning carries on around the service. Shabbat School meets Saturdays from 9:15 to 10 a.m., before worship begins. Torah Talk follows the Shabbat service each week. On Mondays, the Kerev Class meets from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Shabbat sermons are also streamed live.

Sh'ma Yisrael
Rochester, NY
Congregation Shema Yisrael calls itself a Messianic synagogue of Jews and non-Jews who believe in Yeshua. They worship the G-d of Israel in what they describe as a biblically Jewish way. Shabbat service meets Saturdays at 10 am, with childcare provided and ASL interpreting available on request. A Havdalah service is held on the first Saturday evening of each Jewish month. Worship is in Hebrew and English, and the community celebrates the Jewish holidays. Shema Yisrael follows Biblical Judaism rather than rabbinical Judaism and teaches both covenants from a Jewish perspective. It holds that Jewish believers in Yeshua remain sons and daughters of Israel, called to keep their Jewish Biblical heritage. Gentile believers, the congregation teaches, are spiritually sons and daughters of Israel as well. In Messiah the middle wall of partition between Jews and Gentiles has been broken down, and both worship together. The congregation affirms the divinity of Yeshua and salvation by grace through faith in his shed blood. G-d is understood as echad, a compound unity in three persons. Membership and leadership are closed to anyone who continues in homosexual practice or gender change, which it holds to be sin. Rabbi Jim Appel has led the congregation since 1996 and has followed Yeshua since 1977. He is ordained by the International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues. Classes range from Messianic Judaism and T'vilah (immersion) to Hebrew and Davidic Dance. A Shabbat School serves children.
