About

Ohev Yisrael is a Messianic Jewish congregation in Springfield, Virginia, founded in 1980. Its members come mostly from Virginia, Washington D.C. and Maryland. Its name is understood to speak of a God who loves Israel so much that he sent Yeshua to die for her sins.

Shabbat services meet Saturday mornings at 10:15 with praise and worship, Torah readings, corporate prayer and a sermon. Services are also streamed live. Before the service, Shabbat Study and children's Hebrew classes meet at 9:15. Chavurah small groups gather on midweek nights. Rabbi Aaron Allsbrook brings the message most weeks. Shabbat School serves children from age three through high school, teaching Jewish culture, tradition and history alongside Scripture. Hebrew classes lead to Bar/Bat Mitzvah training.

The congregation proclaims Yeshua as the Messiah of Israel and holds that he died for sins, was buried and rose on the third day. It describes itself as "a Jewish community of Jews and Gentiles." Jews and Gentiles are taught to be one in Messiah, with specific callings that complement each other. Jewish members are encouraged to live a Yeshua-centered Jewish life, fully Jewish and fully Messianic. Gentiles are understood as grafted into the commonwealth of Israel. They are welcome to share in Jewish life but are not obligated to keep Torah as Jews do. Sharing Yeshua goes "with the Jew first, and also the Nations." The community also prays for America and Israel.
