Beit Zayit
Verona, VA
Beit Zayit Messianic Congregation gathers in Verona, Virginia, every Shabbat at 10 a.m. Its name means "House of the Olive Tree" and comes from Romans 11. The cultivated olive tree stands for Israel, and the grafted-in wild branches for Gentiles. The congregation is affiliated with Tikkun America, a group of Messianic Jewish synagogues and congregations. On Shabbat morning, the service follows the Shacharit order from a Messianic Jewish siddur. Most prayers are in transliterated Hebrew with English translation. The service also includes a worship set, a Torah reading and a short teaching, usually from the weekly portion. Kiddush and an Oneg potluck meal follow. At 1:30 the community turns to Torah Club, an interactive discussion held most Shabbat afternoons. Beit Zayit holds that Yeshua is the Messiah of Israel and redeemer of the world. It affirms God's everlasting covenant with the Jewish people and teaches that the Torah is "G_d's gift to Israel." The congregation seeks to reach Jewish people while encouraging Jews to continue living as Jews. Families from Jewish and Christian backgrounds worship together. The congregation grew out of Torah study meetings held at the Burner home. Allen E Burner serves as congregational leader. There is currently no rabbi.

Congregation Zion’s Sake
Newport News, VA
Congregation Zion's Sake is a Messianic congregation in Newport News, Virginia. Rabbi Eric Carlson founded it in May 2000 and serves as its shepherd. The name comes from Isaiah 62:1. Torah study meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:00. The Shabbat service begins on Friday evenings at 7:30. The congregation understands its calling as being a light to the world and bringing God's plan of salvation to the ends of the earth. It shares Yeshua, the Jewish Messiah, "to the Jew first, then the Nations," following Romans 1:16. One stated aim is to provoke the Jewish people to jealousy. Its core values are given simply as the whole of Scripture, Genesis 1:1 through Revelation 22:21. A native of Fairview, Pennsylvania, Eric Carlson retired from the United States Navy in 2003 after 22 years in the Submarine Force. He then entered full-time ministry. His wife, Barb, teaches Israeli and Messianic worship dance and leads the dance team Yachad. The team has traveled on outreach trips to Russia, Siberia and Ukraine. Dance practice is held every Friday at 6:50 pm. A praise and worship team draws musicians from several generations. Shabbat School teaches children the Word of the Lord. The congregation is affiliated with the International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues and the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America.

Hope of Israel Congregation
Roanoke, VA
Hope of Israel Congregation gathers in the Roanoke area every Saturday at 11:00 for Shabbat service, also broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube. Jewish and non-Jewish believers worship Yeshua together in a Jewish context. The name, Tikvat Israel in Hebrew, refers to the Lord as the hope of redemption for Israel and the nations. The community began in 2013 as a monthly outreach for prayer, Torah study and the Jewish holidays. In 2017 founding members established the congregation, and Rabbi Dr. Sam Nadler joined local leaders in consecrating its four elders. Karl Mardian serves as congregational leader and elder. Shabbat morning opens with a call to worship and a short message on the weekly Torah portion. Prayers include the Shema, and music runs from contemporary Messianic songs to traditional Jewish songs in English and Hebrew. Each service closes with the Priestly Blessing. On holidays such as Rosh Hashanah, the Torah scroll comes out for a special Torah service. The congregation holds that God's covenant with the Jewish people is irrevocable and unconditional. It teaches that Gentile believers are grafted into the Jewish olive tree, and that Jews and Gentiles are made "one new man" in Messiah. The good news, it believes, goes to the Jewish people first. Children have a nursery, Torah Tots and Torah classes during the message. Teens meet monthly, with Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation available. A sisterhood meets for Bible study and outreach, and at Sukkot the congregation builds a sukkah.

Tikvat Israel
Richmond, VA
Tikvat Israel is a Messianic synagogue in the center of Richmond, Virginia. Shabbat services are held on Saturdays at 10am. Founded more than 30 years ago, the community belongs to the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations and Tikkun America. It describes itself as a place where Jewish people and their family and friends can experience a Jewish service and community. All of this rests on the belief that Yeshua is the Messiah of Israel. The congregation understands Messianic Judaism as "that branch of Judaism which claims that Yeshua is the Messiah of Israel." Messianic Jews, it teaches, follow Yeshua's example by continuing to live as faithful Jews. It affirms that Yeshua is worthy of worship and brings Jewish life to its fullness. Yeshua is central here, and the New Testament holds a prominent place. Gentile followers of Yeshua come alongside Messianic Jews in a shared mission. That mission is to build a congregation for Yeshua within the Richmond Jewish community. The synagogue building was constructed in 1914 for a Baptist congregation. From the 1940s through the 1970s it was home to an Orthodox synagogue. Tikvat Israel bought it in 1990 under Rabbi Jamie Cowen. The congregation sees that Jewish and Christian history as reflecting its own identity. Rabbi David Wein leads the congregation today. He grew up as a Reform Jew in Richmond and holds rabbinic ordination with the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations.
