Messianic Jewish congregation · Overland Park, KS
Or HaOlam is a Messianic Jewish synagogue in Overland Park, led by Rabbi Shmuel Wolkenfeld. The community meets every Saturday morning at 10 for Shabbat. It is affiliated with the International Alliance of Messianic Congregations & Synagogues and is a member of the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America.
The congregation worships the G-d of Israel and Yeshua the Messiah of Israel. It teaches that its reason for existence is the covenants G-d made with the Jewish people. Tracing its roots to Genesis 12, Or HaOlam describes itself as "fundamentally a Judaism, not a Christianity." It affirms salvation through personal faith in the atoning death and resurrection of Yeshua. Jewish identity, it holds, rests on covenant, not replacement. The community also looks for the restoration and survival of the nation of Israel. Gentiles are understood as grafted into the olive tree, and all nations are welcome to a Torah lifestyle. That welcome does not negate Jewish identity. The congregation teaches that conversion to Judaism undermines the New Testament message of Gentiles grafted in.
On Tuesdays a Messianic Judaism class meets from 6:30 to 7:30. TeeRosh follows, an hour of prayer, dance and song. Both meet in person and on Zoom. Weekly readings pair the Torah portion with the Prophets and the Gospels. Speakers are available to churches and Bible studies on Israel and the Jewish roots of the Christian faith.
