Adat HaTikvah
Deerfield, IL
Adat HaTikvah is a Messianic Jewish congregation in Deerfield, Illinois. Its name means "congregation of the hope." Every Saturday at 10:00 a.m., the community gathers for a Torah service. Rabbi Jacob Rosenberg leads the congregation. The mission is simple and stated plainly: "To Be and Make Disciples Of Yeshua The Messiah." Jewish and Gentile believers share congregational life here, and the community hopes to unify all disciples of Yeshua in the Chicago area. Its teaching runs "to the Jewish people first" and also to the nations. The biblical calendar sits at the center of that teaching. Scripture is read as one story from beginning to end. The congregation's roots go back to 1934. David and Ester Bronstein founded it that year as the First Hebrew Christian Church of Chicago, growing out of a Jewish mission house ministry called Peniel Center. In 1974 the name changed to Adat Hatikvah. Over the decades it met in Albany Park, East Rogers Park, West Rogers Park and Evanston before settling in Deerfield. Past leaders include Larry Rich, Dan Juster, Barry Budoff, Jeff Feinberg and Roy Schwartz. Many of them went on to plant other congregations and organizations around the world.

Congregation B’nai Maccabim
Rolling Meadows, IL
Congregation B'nai Maccabim is a Messianic Jewish community in the Chicagoland area, established in 1975. It counts itself among the earliest Messianic congregations in the region. Its people come from a wide variety of backgrounds and seek to live a Jewish life through faith in Mashiach Yeshua. Shabbat services begin at 11:00 AM. Worship follows a more traditional form, built around the siddur. The aim is ka'vah'nah, or heart attachment, and avodah in serving the G-D of Israel. The yearly calendar keeps the appointed times found in the Torah: Pesach, Shavuot, Rosh HaShana, Yom Kippur and Sukkot. The community also marks Purim, Yom HaShoah, Yom Ha-Atzmaut, Tisha B'Av, Simchat Torah and Chanukah. B'nai Maccabim means sons of the Maccabees. The congregation understands its name as a call to build a house of worship and praise to G-D. It also commits itself to Tikun Olam, the repairing of the world, through studying and living out the Word of G-D. Its stated mission begins with communicating the message of salvation in Messiah Yeshua to the Jewish people. Recorded teachings by the late Rabbi Betzalel Budoff are kept in his memory.

Devar Emet Messianic Synagogue
Skokie, IL
Devar Emet Messianic Synagogue is a Messianic Jewish congregation led by Rabbi Kirk Gliebe. It aims to grow a Jewish community that believes and teaches that Yeshua is the promised Jewish Messiah. Shabbat morning services begin at 10 AM. They draw on traditional Jewish liturgy, Scripture reading, extemporaneous prayer, contemporary songs and New Testament readings. Following Jewish tradition, the congregation understands the service as an ascent up Mt Sinai to receive G-d's Torah. The liturgy moves from the Tehillim through the Shema to the Amidah. An Oneg Shabbat follows, and nursery and childcare are offered for young children. On Wednesday nights the community gathers for corporate prayer, reflective singing, personal testimony and in-depth Scripture study. Devar Emet has adopted the Statement of Faith of the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations as its own. It holds that G-d's covenant with Israel is everlasting and that Israel's election is irrevocable. Torah is understood as G-d's gift to Israel and the constitution of the Jewish people. For communities from the nations, it teaches, Torah has a different role. Gentile believers are grafted into the olive tree, yet do not become Jews. The synagogue is open to all people. Its membership and leadership are meant to remain predominantly Jewish. Gentiles who feel called to cast their lot with the Jewish people are asked to learn Jewish history, culture and tradition. Intermarried families are welcomed to grow in their faith in Messiah Yeshua and in Jewish life.

Etz Chaim Congregation
Lake Villa, IL
Congregation Etz Chaim calls itself "a Synagogue of Messianic Jews and Gentiles who believe in Yeshua (Jesus) as the promised Messiah of Israel." Jewish and Gentile believers share one congregational life. The name comes from the Torah. Etz Chaim means tree of life, and the congregation gives that name to the Torah itself. Dr. Jeffrey Feinberg serves as spiritual leader. The congregation keeps a mailing address in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.

New Jerusalem House of Prayer
Carol Stream, IL
New Jerusalem House of Prayer gathers in Carol Stream, in the western suburbs of Chicago. It describes itself as a community of Jews, Christians, Messianics and others who share "our common root of faith." The congregation was previously known as Resurrection Anglican Church. It remains part of the Anglican family worldwide, in the ACNA. The community teaches that the early followers of Jesus were Jews who kept the biblical feasts and lived by the Torah. It holds that later Gentile church leaders turned against Jewish believers, and it repudiates the anti-Semitism that followed. Its stated aim is to recover the earliest faith shared by the followers of Jesus, "who was Himself an observant Jew." The biblical feasts are celebrated here, from Passover and Shavuot to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. So are the life events of Jesus and the early church. Shabbat begins every Saturday with adult study at 8:30 am. Worship follows at 10:00, and a free lunch for all is served at 11:30. Services can also be joined online through Zoom. New Jerusalem teaches Hebrew to its members and others in the community, and members travel to Israel with some regularity.
