Ahavat Yeshua Messianic Congregation
Indianapolis, IN
Ahavat Yeshua is a Messianic Jewish congregation in Indianapolis. It gathers for Shabbat every Friday evening at 7:30, and the service usually runs 75 to 80 minutes. Congregational Leader Sam Stevens leads the community, which is member-governed with an elected board. People from Jewish and non-Jewish backgrounds make up the congregation, united by faith in Yeshua. They believe He is "the promised Messiah of Israel and the Savior for all people." The whole Bible, Tanakh and Brit Chadashah, is held to be the inspired and authoritative Word of God. Shabbat and the Feasts are observed together as a congregation, and baptism is by immersion. Worship opens with Shabbat and other Jewish blessings, including the Shema and Aleinu. Hebrew prayers and Torah readings sit alongside practical teaching centered on Yeshua, given by Sam Stevens or other speakers. Contemporary Messianic music often carries Hebrew phrases, and Israeli folk dancing is part of worship. No Hebrew is needed, since English translations are given aloud or on screen. About once a month the community shares the Lord's Supper with matzah and grape juice. An Oneg Shabbat sometimes follows on Friday evening or Saturday. A Shabbat school runs during the service for school-aged children. A prayer meeting gathers on Tuesday nights.

Congregation Shaarey Yeshua
Indianapolis, IN
Congregation Sha'arey Yeshua is a Messianic Jewish synagogue in Indianapolis, Indiana. Its service is held Friday evenings at 7:30. For a time, that Friday service has been meeting on Facebook. In Yeshua, generally known as Jesus, the congregation holds that it has found the Messiah promised to reconcile his people to God. It teaches that there is no conflict between the Torah and Tenakh and the New Testament. It also affirms that there is a valid Jewish expression of faith in Yeshua. Because Israel has an ongoing role in the plan of God, the congregation believes Jewish people must maintain a Jewish identity. Its members understand themselves as called to be "a Kingdom of priests and a holy nation" (Exodus 19:6). Rabbi Jeffrey A. Adler leads the congregation. He comes from a family with five generations of Messianic Jews and is a native of Cincinnati. He holds a Master of Divinity degree. Since 1978 he has led Messianic synagogues in Cincinnati and Indianapolis. He has held offices in the Messianic Alliance of America and the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations. He has also taught Yeshiva courses for the IAMCS. Beyond the Friday service, the community has a youth program with its own youth rabbi and offers recorded Bible study teaching. A radio program, Gates of Salvation, airs Sundays at 9:30 a.m. on 1500 AM.
